After over a year of research, prayer, and congregational input, we recommend that the council establish a committee that focuses on the Lansing Community Care of Children Need, particularly considering some form of On-site Childcare. Options considered could range from the simple/small to the complex/large or, most likely, beginning small and then growing into
something that has a wide-ranging impact on our local community.
There was one other idea that generated much interest; under the Transportation Needs category: Providing pick-up and delivery services for groceries, food pantry items, and prescriptions. Although this idea (generated as part of topical brainstorming after presentations by subject matter experts) was highly rated, transportation needs were ranked below care of the child by survey participants. If those church members who expressed interest in this service wish to pursue this, we are prepared to facilitate their initial planning efforts.
Similarly, we will be glad to provide contact information for anyone who would like to volunteer in the community’s ongoing efforts to provide transportation or affordable housing support.
We have already spoken with the church council and will make a short presentation to
the congregation following the charge conference on June 21.
After examining these responses, it was determined the 3 most pressing needs in Lansing are care of the child, transportation, and housing. Below are several video presentations detailing the extent of these needs from community experts.
