Welcome to the Lansing United Methodist Church! We are a vibrant, growing community in the heart of the Finger Lakes region of New York. Our location in Lansing overlooks the local schools and the beautiful Cayuga Lake. Just 10 minutes from downtown Ithaca and Cornell University, we are easily accessible from all directions.
Our youth programming is developed by a committed team of parents and youth-focused individuals. The intent of our ministry is to help our youth grow in their relationship with the God who made them and loves them unconditionally. Through our Sunday School, youth groups, Confirmation classes, and service projects, we hope to fan the flame that God has already started within them.
In this youth-oriented section of the LUMC site you’ll find several things: information about events we’re holding, devotions, random facts and/or websites, etc. You can also navigate to this page to find some answers about our programs and activities. If you’re moving into the area and looking for a church for you and your children, please don’t hestitate to contact us for more information.
Some frequently asked questions:
What sorts of things do you believe?
At the Lansing United Methodist Church, we believe that youth (6th-12th grades) are most able to grow close to God when they’re involved at four different levels -
- education about God through Sunday School and other events,
- fellowship with other Christians,
- service to their local church and community, as well as the larger world
- inviting others to join in what they’ve experienced.
When youth are involved in all these things, God is able to radically change their lives.
What sorts of programs do you offer?
For Junior High students (grades 6-8), we have:
- Sunday School @ 10:30 on Sunday mornings
- Monthly Youth Group activities (Game Night, Lock-Ins, etc.)
- Confirmation process/Retreat
For Senior High Students (grades 9-12), we have:
- Sunday School @ 10:30 on Sunday mornings
- Weekly Youth Group on Thursday nights from 7 pm-9 pm
We also encourage attendance at other local and regional events, as well as the Revolve Conference for young women. We are very excited about this year, and hope to provide in the future even more opportunities for our youth to have a personal relationship with their Lord.
Where do you meet?
For Jr. High Sunday School, we meet in the Ludlowville Room at the LUMC building on Brickyard Road (the Northeast corner of the building). Other activities will list a meeting place – usually the Fellowship Hall or another room in the LUMC building.
For Sr. High Sunday School and Youth Group, we meet in the ParFUNage – the basement of the pastor’s residence next to the LUMC building (called a “parsonage”). When at the ParFUNage, the phone number to call in case of an emergency should be the Youth Coordinator’s cell phone number:
(330) six three five – eight four six one. All other times, the church phone number should be used: 533-4070.
Who watches my child when they’re at LUMC events?
In addition to the Coordinator of Youth Ministries, LUMC uses other caring adults as leaders and chaperones. Most likely, the leaders taking care of your children are your Lansing neighbors and friends! Adult leaders must be at least 21 years old, and are required to go through a screening and background check before they’re allowed to interact with children. In each activity that we host, we maintain at least a two-adult supervision rule.
What parents are saying about Youth Ministries at LUMC:
“You do impressive work for God and I am appreciative of the impact on my family’s lives.”
“She loves youth group!”
“If you ever start to wonder for a minute if you are making a difference in the lives of our young people, let me assure you that you are.”
