You’ll only have been in school for a couple weeks by then, but you need a BREAK!!! Come to the Sr. High Retreat where we’ll have lots of food and fun, and you’ll get a chance to relax and re-focus a bit. You may be asking…

What do I need to bring?

  • a snack & drink to share
  • a sleeping bag/bedding & clothes for Sunday

What are we going to do?

Well, we’ll start off the night with some dinner, and then do some various, fun activities ‘til late in the evening. We’ll sleep in a bit in the morning, have some breakfast, hold our own little worship service at Lakeview, and then have Sunday School. After that, it’ll be time for us to clean up and you’ll head home at 11:30 a.m.

Help start your year off right – see you on Saturday the 24th @ Lakeview!

Sr. High Snow Tubing next Friday!

Posted by youthcoordinator on Jan 18, 2011 in Events

Have you ever been snow tubing at Greek Peak? I haven’t.

I actually haven’t ever gone snow-tubing, or skiing, or snowmobiling – I know! I can barely believe it myself.

But, that’ll change next Friday – Jan. 28th – when I’ll go with all you Sr. Highers to Greek Peak! It’ll be lots of fun, so I hope you can come!

You just need to…

  • let me know that you’re coming ASAP so we know we have enough space in cars
  • wear warm clothes
  • bring $5
  • eat dinner beforehand, or bring $ for snacks there

Christmas party? Pretty much awesome. :-)

Posted by youthcoordinator on Jan 18, 2011 in Events

It’s 2011 now, but that doesn’t mean the memories of 2010 are all gone and that we’ve forgotten how much fun we had… ’cause we haven’t!!!

In December, we hosted a Christmas party for Jr. & Sr. Highers and had a LOT of fun! We had some great dinner, acted out different scenes from favorite Christmas movies, did a hilarious gift exchange, and then watched VeggieTales’ “It’s A Meaningful Life”. Overall, we had a lot of fun, and I’m so glad you all came out! Lookin’ forward to it again next year!

Christmas Party for Jr. & Sr. High!

Posted by youthcoordinator on Dec 6, 2010 in Events

To end the year with some fun, we’re going to be continuing a tradition we’ve had for the last couple years – a Christmas Movie & Gift Swap event! :-)

What do we do? Well, we’ll all gather (Jr. & Sr. High) in the Fellowship Hall on Friday, December 17th, from 6pm – 9pm. We’ll have some dinner, Christmas-y beverages like hot cocoa and dessert, and then do a gift swap! You need to bring a $5, non-gender-specific wrapped gift, and then we’ll play a fun game to swap them all around so that we’ll each end up with a gift, but not the one we brought! After we do that, we’ll play some games and then watch a fun, Christmas-y movie.

It’s a lot of fun, and we get to just hang out, relax, and celebrate the joy of the season with each other. Hope to see you all there!

Christmas Caroling on December 11th!

Posted by youthcoordinator on Dec 1, 2010 in Events

It’s December, and that means… CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!! :-) That’s right, Christmas is upon us in just a few short weeks!

To help put ourselves and others in the Christmas Spirit, we’ll be doing some caroling on Saturday, December 11th, from 2pm-5pm. We’ll caravan around Lansing and sing at different people’s houses for a couple hours, ending with some yummy snacks for ourselves. This event is open to Jr. High, Sr. High, parents, grandparents, and anyone who just likes singing and having fun! Hope to see you there!

*Great* job wrapping & baking!

Posted by youthcoordinator on Nov 30, 2010 in Events

Over the last few weeks we’ve had our SERVICE gloves on, wrapping presents for Operation Christmas Child and then baking cookies for some of our LUMC college students.

And, they went great! We had some very helpful youth come and wrap presents, and some equally kind-hearted Sr. Highers bake some cookies. What I think is simply amazing: we had fun together while we did things that made God smile.

Thanks to these projects, people around the world that we’ve never met will experience the love of God through a simple shoebox filled with presents, and our own LUMC graduates will be reminded of the love that we have for God, and that God has for them. Thank you so much for your cooperation and help with these awesome projects!

Wrapping Party & Cookie-Baking this week!

Posted by youthcoordinator on Nov 16, 2010 in Events

Operation Christmas Child wrappingThis week we’ve got TWO big events that will help to SERVE people locally, nationally, and internationally.

First, we’ve got our Operation Christmas Child Wrapping Party this Thursday, from 2:30pm until 4pm. Both Jr. & Sr. High Youth can come up to the church building after school, and we’ll listen to Christmas music and have some snacks and have a great time as we wrap all of the shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. It’s a little crazy and lots of fun, and these shoeboxes full of presents will be sent across the country and around the world to children in need who otherwise wouldn’t have anything at Christmas.

Next, on Saturday evening from 4pm til 6pm, we’re serving our recent LUMC graduates by Baking Cookies! Both Jr. & Sr. High youth are invited to come and help bake cookies that will be sent to our 2010 grads during their final exam time. We won’t be serving any food at this event, but it’s highly probable that some of the cookies that we bake will end up in your child’s stomachs. :-) If you’re willing, we would love it if you could contribute to these gift packages by sending some pre-made dough or ingredients and a recipe along with your child to bake.

Thank you so much for your support of these programs! Youth participation in serving our local and international communities is a critical part of growing closer to God. By serving others, we help to show our love to God.

See you on Thursday and Saturday!

Awesome hike!

Posted by youthcoordinator on Nov 9, 2010 in Events

Kamryn drinking Taughannock Falls

Kamryn was a little thirsty...

We had a great time at our “hike” with our Jr. Highers this last Sunday!

It wasn’t much of a hike, really. It was more like a leisurely walk up to the beautiful falls and back, but it was still AWESOME! The weather was a little chilly, but once we got going we warmed up, with plenty of climbing, jumping, running, and laughing. :-) Afterwards, we stopped by Purity for a delicious treat and some more laughing. If you weren’t able to join us, we’ll do it again next year – see you then!
