April events

Hey all - we've got a few great things ready for you this month! The annual 6th-8th grade Flashlight Egg Hunt will be this Friday, April 3rd, @ 8pm! It'll be at LUMC because of all the rain, but it will be great fun - see you there!

For you Sr. Highers, we're going to be baking cookies for just a few hours during your Spring Break, on Tuesday April 14th from 2pm-4pm. We'll mail these cookies to our LUMC graduates who are gearing up for their final exams for the year! They really appreciate it, and I bet you will too when you go off to school, so I hope to see you there!

Christmas movie / dinner / gift swap THIS SUNDAY

It's here! This Sunday, from 5pm-8pm, we'll be having a fun gift swap, some dinner, and a Christmas movie on a big screen!

All you need to bring: a wrapped gift, $5 or under. Silly, serious, it can be whatever you want! (though remember, you're getting someone else's gift, too - what goes around comes around!)

Hope to see you there!

(Please RSVP if you plan to attend)

Reminder: youth group is cancelled tonight

Unfortunately, we're unable to meet tonight for our regular pizza & games. The church is filled with stuff for Rummage Sale, and Lakeview already had a group scheduled. :-(

We'll meet next week though, see you then!

(Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow or Saturday to help with the Rummage Sale, right? ;-) )

October - Jam-packed with service & goodness

Wow! If you'll look over to the left, you'll see that we've got quite a lot going on in October! We've got the usual Sr. High Youth Group, and we've also got the Rummage Sale. It was a HUGE help last spring to have you all involved with the set-up and tear-down. The money the church raises from Rummage Sale helps go to all the mission work we do, so it's important!

We've also got the CROP WALK, which helps to eliminate hunger here in Lansing and around the world. Then, on the 31st - Halloween - we'll be hosting a movie night for Sr. Highs... be prepared for "The Exorcist". It's one of my favorite movies, and I'm looking forward to watching it and having a good discussion afterwards. Hope to see you all throughout this month!

Youth Group Cancelled :-(

Sorry everyone, but I've got to cancel Sr. High youth group for tonight (9/18) - I've got a really bad cold and don't want any of you to catch it. :-(  Hope to see you on Sunday, though, and I'm looking forward to next Thursday!

Back in the swing of things...

Well, the "Upcoming Events" sidebar is updated, you should be receiving calendars in the mail within the next few days, and the smell of waffles is in the air - it must be September!

I'm really glad to be back at LUMC, and I'm *really* looking forward to this Fall and whatever God has in store for us. Just to highlight some things:
  • this Sunday is the annual Waffle Breakfast / Sunday School sign-up, so be there or be circle.
  • Sr. High youth group will start *next* Thursday, September 11th, from 7pm-9pm in the Sr. High room.
  • yes, the calendars and events are correct - a 6th-8th grade Lock-In in just a few weeks! Crazy, I know! It'll be lots of fun!
  • there's also plenty of fun for the Sr. Highers too! We've got a retreat scheduled for the 27th-28th. We'll have a fun time on Saturday evening, then have some breakfast on Sunday morning and go to church together.
Any questions, comments, concerns, or fears can be directed to Kevin, so send an e-mail or give a call. See you soon!

CCYM Retreat in two weeks!

There's a retreat coming up @ Casowasco in less than two weeks, and you are invited! The Conference Council on Youth Ministry has put together an awesome retreat that is going to be lots of fun. Plenty of hang-out and game time, quirky fundraisers ($ that goes to support mission work, here and abroad), and learning a little bit more about God and His powerful love.

There'll be a half dozen teens from LUMC there, and I'm going there to be a small group leader, so I hope you decide to join us! It'll be lots of fun!

You MUST register in advance, though. Forms are on the youth bulletin board and in both the Jr. and Sr. High rooms.

The cost: $115, but only $105 if you've never attended before or if you bring a friend who's never attending before.

If you would like financial assistance, PLEASE just contact Kevin by e-mail or phone. It's no problem, but we need to know before you register.

So, I have to apologize for having to cancel youth group again this Thursday. I had a family member die yesterday, and I have to travel to Ohio for the funeral. :-(

I look forward to next week's, though! January 10th, 7pm - be there!

Youth Group Canceled Tonight

Speaking of cancellations, Youth Group will be canceled tonight! When I woke up, it hadn't started snowing. Now, it's snowing quite heavily, and is expected to dump a little over a foot by the time the storm's done. So, stay at home tonight! Don't make your parents drive you to church, because no one will be there (no food will be there, either)!

See you on Sunday!

Christmas Caroling this Saturday!

Just a reminder that we're going Christmas Caroling this Saturday, December 15th, from 2pm-4pm. Bring your parents and grandparents and sisters and brothers, everyone is invited! We're going to travel around the Lansing area to people who could really use some some Christmas cheer and know that they're loved. Hope to see you all there!

Operation Christmas Child

For the next few weeks, we want to spend some time giving to the less fortunate in our world. Operation Christmas Child is a program that collects shoeboxes filled with presents from all around the country and then redistributes them around the world to children who don't usually get any presents at all. We'd like to help them accomplish this goal. For the next few weeks, we're asking you and the members of the congregation to bring in items and a shoebox so we can pack them up and send them out to needy children.

Some suggestions for items you could donate:
Tell your friends at school- we want to help as many kids as we can!

For more information, call or e-mail Kevin.

Sr. High - Thursday Night Youth Group

Last spring, Thursday night was a time when the Sr. High would come to church and have some pizza, play some games, forget about school, and just hang out and talk for a while. I’d like to continue that this year (though the day might change), with a slight twist in schedule. Once a month, we’ll do something bigger/different (movie night, bowling, etc.) Remember, your friends are always welcome to come. We’ll start this Thursday (the 13th) @ 7 pm.

Jr. High Lock-In!

You asked for it.

You got it.

We're holding a lock-in on Saturday, May 19th @ 6 pm, until Sunday morning after church and Sunday School.

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

What's a lock-in?

A Lock-In is where you stay at church and can't leave! No going home to sleep, or do homework, or shower. We'll be playing games, eating snacks, and generally having a great time.

Do I need to bring anything?

We're asking that you bring a drink of some kind (soda, prune juice, etc.), and some sort of snack (chips, candy, cookies, brownies, etc.). We're going to provide pizza and some other good stuff to eat, as well as breakfast for Sunday morning.

Can I bring a friend?

Absolutely! You are always welcome to bring your friends!

Can we stay up all night, or will you make us go to sleep?

Tricky question! Let's just say that sleep will happen, but I doubt you will be well-rested in the morning.

If you have any questions or comments, just call the church or e-mail me.

Sr. High Movie Night This Thursday!

Senior High Movie Night

Thursday the 19th
7-9pm

Bring a friend!

We'll be snacking on popcorn and soda as we watch a still-to-be-decided-upon movie. It'll be a good one though, I promise! Not "Down Under the Big Top" again, that's for sure

Come on by for a good flick and good fellowship, it'll be a good time.

Easter Sunrise Service, 4Word07, Family Game Night!

Easter Sunrise Service

Hey everybody! If I didn't catch you on Sunday, I wanted to remind you all that we need some help planning for the Sunrise Service for Easter this next Sunday. If you're available, come to the church at 10 AM Saturday and we'll run through what we've got.

4Word 07

4Word07 is, as Cayla put it, a "great big God party" in Syracuse on April 27th-29th. Registration has to be postmarked by next Wednesday (April 11th), so I need to know if you'd like to go as soon as possible.

Family Game Night

We're having another Family Game Night next Tuesday night, April 10th, from 6-8PM. Last time was a lot of fun, so I hope to see all of you there with your parents! We'll be providing pizza, just bring a snack to share.

As you may know, there's a CCYM meeting this Friday in Clay (just north of Syracuse). Let's meet at the church at 5PM tomorrow evening- I'm planning on driving, and am looking for probably one other driver. I'll be calling some of you today to double check whether you're going or not... I'm looking forward to it!
